Title: 1x16 Which Prue is it, anyway?

1x16 Helena and Gabriel StatlerHelena and Gabriel Statler

Gabriel is a Lord of War. These beings are a clan of super-natural warriors. They've been around since time began.
They started most of the major wars in history and once they're done in one place, they get reincarnated in some other part of the world and start all over again.
They are flesh and blood but as long as they have their crystal sword
they're not only protected, they're immune to the weapons of man.
They do have a code of honour and when one of them is disgraced,
he has to steal his abilities back. One of the things he has to steal back is the magic of a first born witch who are supposed to be the strongest.

Gabriel is
vanquished by Prue who uses his own sword against him.

Also mentioned:
Brianna Warren
And thus the Lord of War, his army invincible, swept through the streets leaving nothing but ashes in his wake. The cause would have been lost, had it not been for the appearance of an unlikely savior in the form of a woman. Her face lined with years of wisdom, her hands the fountainhead of a power beyond belief, the Warren Witch. Brianna appeared unarmed before the conquering army. Underestimating his foe, the Lord of War ordered her summarily execution, but his plan was not to be.
Holding aloft her hands, the channel and source of her tremendous energy, Her mind focused, and her will strong, Brianna did what no man, no army could: she sent the Crystal Sword of the Lord of War high into the sky, and hundreds of miles away.
Seperated from the weapon that was the source of all his power, the Lord of War was quickly defeated, his armies crushed and his campaign ruined.
Moreover, the fall from grace of this Lord of War was made even worse in the eyes of those who stood in judgement by the instrument of his destruction, a simple witch.

to multiply strength,
recite these words at length:

Take my powers blessed be,
multiply their strength by three

The spell is temporary.
The multiple persons are only there as long as they are needed. Once the reason the persons are there has gone the spell wears out and the persons disappear.

to disempower a witch:

Before the passing of this hour
Take away all of their powers

Summary: When Phoebe has a terrifying premonition of Prue being stabbed to death, Prue takes the drastic step of saying an incantation to multiply her strength and the spell surprisingly results in the creation of two additional Prues to fight Gabriel, a reincarnated ancient Lord of War. Meanwhile, Piper and Phoebe try to wean Prue from her selfish and headstrong habit of always taking matters into her own hands and Andy gets more material for his Prue X-files.

Piper: This is ridiculous. This is like... this is like "The Parent Trap" with a B cup
Phoebe: I think I might have just found a way to take some of the Disney out of our life

The Parent Trap was a Disney film in 1961, specifically about a pair of twins. It was remade in 98, though the original is concidered to be better. Thus both of the above refrences are connected to the idea of having an extra (or in this case two) person around who looks like someone else.

Coroner: Then I'd get on the horn to Ripley's Believe It Or Not because as far as forensic medicine can tell, this woman is Prue Halliwell.

Ripley's Believe It Or Not is a famous museum of human and animal oddities founded by Robert Ripley.

Spell of multiplicity
Coincidence? there is a move with pretty much the same storliine, called "Multiplicity".

In this episode Phoebe starts training martial arts.

Random quote: Claire: Helena Statler. I would like you to meet Prue Halliwell. One of our best and brightest young specialists.
Helena: Best and brightest? That's quite an introduction.
Prue: Yes it is. Maybe I should get a raise?
