Demons, universally considered agents of both good and evil, have been looked upon as vital and/or negative forces. The demonic species are supernatural spirits of semi-divine status with limitless energy, excessively passionate natures, shape-shifting talents, and have a preference for concealment, "indwelling" and darkness

The term 'demon' is derived ultimately from the Sanskrit root div ('to shine'), through the Greek daimon ('divine power'). To the Greeks daimons were intermediary spirits between humans and the Gods. In Western religion and occult lore, demons are classified into various elaborate systems, and hierarchies of hell, and have ascribed to them various characters, forms, attributes and duties. The most complex hierarchy was devised by Johann Weyer, who estimated that there were 7,405,926 demons serving under seventy-two princes.

Throughout all traditions and in all parts of the world, the demonic spirits have avoided the light of sun, of love, of truth, and of reason. By surrounding yourself with love, joy and compassion, all demons can be vanquished. And the fact that we all have choices in the paths that we take on this earth walk makes the demon's work that much more difficult for him/her.

In Christianity, demons are associated only with evil. They include those demons who were cast out of heaven together with Lucifer, as well as pagan deities branded as demons by the church. Demons devote themselves to tormenting human beings, assaulting them, sexually abusing them, and possessing them. The possibility of sex with demons was denied before the twelfth century, but by the later Middle Ages belief in sexually voracious demons in alluring male or female form who preyed on sleeping men and women (see Incubus, Succubus) become widely accepted. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in Europe witches were regularly accused of having sex with demons (see Sabbat). It was held that demons could be expelled or kept at bay by the ritual of exorcism, or by the use of certain prayers, or a special charm, or by wearing an amulet or talisman.

Tarot is a tradition of using a set of cards to gain insight and achieve greater control over issues involving relationships, opportunities, and life changes. Over 1000 years old, with roots that go back 3000, Tarot is a repository of ancient wisdom. Interestingly, our modern playing cards are a subset of the Tarot deck (and it's possible to read them too).

The history of Tarot symbols is shrouded in mystery. Tarot is believed to have come out of China, India or Egypt. Modern tarot cards date back to 14th Century Spain, Italy and France.

Seventh son

The seventh son of the seventh son or the seventh daughter of the seventh daughter is said to possess supernatural powers. In the Tamar only a male child born in this way may be a record carrier and only a female child born in this way may be high priestess.

There were seven planets in ancient astronomy, the world was created in seven days, each of the four phases of the moon lasts for seven days, seven notes on the musical scale, seven colours in the rainbow, seven is the number of wisdom, truth and harmony.

These are very old handbooks of magic, some of which may date back to ancient times.
These books were well used during the 16th and 17th centuries.

In some covens they may still use some magic texts from these books. The original purpose of these grimoires was to conjure up the Demons who would be used by the magician to gain wealth or bring harm to enemies.

Grimoires give very detailed instructions which are very difficult to carry out. These instructions include what to wear, what prayers and incarnations to use, the tools that are required, precise astrological times, recipes for incense, seals, sigils, magic circles, amulets, talisman and more.

Grimories first came into common use around the 13th century and is thought by some to have been linked to the Knights Templar. A true grimoire is written by hand, those that are typed or mass produced are fake and should be thrown in the rubbish bin.

Much of the material in grimoires is taken from Egyptian texts dating back to around 100A.D. Using the Demons meant making a pact with them.

The grimoires help the magician outwit the demons so as not to fulfill the magicians end of the bargain. The greatest grimoire is "The Key of Solomon" which was attributed to the legendary King Solomon.

Another grimoire connected to Solomon was the "Lemegeton" which included both white and black magic

Warlock is sometimes wrongly used these days as the term for male witches. But men who practise witchcraft as a religion generally prefer to be referred to as witches or wiccans.

Warlock comes from the old English "wer loga" and means enemy, traitor, liar, etc. The word Warlock became associated with one who had made a pact with the devil.

In an attempt to discredit wicca the catholic church started this slander. The devil has nothing to do with wichcraft as contempory witchcraft does not share christianity's belief in the devil.

Book Of Shadows

A combination of spellbook, demonology and history.
Book of Shadows & Outline

What exactly goes into a book of shadows?
This should be an accurate record of all the magickal hand-on things that you do. It should also hold research information, facts and figures on subjects, such as astrology, elements, herbs, crystals, etc. It may have works of wisdom, insights you have had, and perhaps the beginnings of your webweaving information.

It may also contain a list of stores and order houses where you can obtain items that;you cannot make or grow yourself. Affirmat;ions can be found there as well, And, of course, the spells and rituals you use, and their results.

You can use a three-inch binder, divided into two sections, each with A-Z index tabbing. The first sect;ion contains researched information, quotes, tables, etc. The second section holds "working" information, such as rituals, spells, healing items, formulas and other basic instructions.

Your notebook as then become YOUR first Book of Shadows. On the inside cover it is customary to write a book blessing. This is done for both protection and dedication purposes of the information therein. Take some time to think about how you would like to word this blessing, then transfer it to your notebook.

Candle magic

One of the simplest of magical arts which comes under the heading of natural magic is candle burning. It is simple because it employs little ritual and few ceremonial artifacts. The theatrical props of candle magic can be purchased at any department store and its rituals can be practiced in any sitting room or bedroom.

Most of us have performed our first act of candle magic by the time we are two years old. Blowing out the tiny candles on our first birthday cake and making a wish is pure magic. This childhood custom is based on the three magical principals of concentration, will power and visualization. In simple terms, the child who wants his wish to come true has to concentrate (blow out the candles), visualize the end result (make a wish) and hope that it will come true (will power).

The size and shape of the candles you use is unimportant, although highly decorative, extra large, or unusually shaped candles will not be suitable as these may create distractions when the magician wants to concentrate on the important work in hand. Most magicians prefer to use candles of standard or uniform size if possible. Those which are sold in different colors for domestic use are ideal.

The candles you use for any type of magical use should be virgin, that is unused. Under no circumstances use a candle which has already adorned a dinner table or been used as a bedroom candle or night-light. There is a very good occult reason for not using anything but virgin materials in magic. Vibrations picked up by secondhand materials or equipment may disturb your workings and negate their effectiveness.

Some magicians who are artistically inclined prefer to make their own candles for ritual and magical use. This is a very practical exercise because not only does it impregnate the candle with your own personal vibrations, but the mere act of making your own candle is magically potent. Specialist shops sell candle wax and molds together with wicks, perfumes, and other equipment.

The hot wax is heated until liquid and then poured into the mould through which a suitably sized wick has already been threaded. The wax is then left to cool and once is this has occurred the mould is removed , leaving a perfectly formed candle. Special oil-soluble dyes and perfumes can be added to the wax before the cooling process is complete to provide suitable colors and scents for a particular magical ritual. Craft shops which sell candlemaking supplies can also provide do-it-yourself books explaining the technicalities of the art to the beginner.

Once you have purchased or made your ritual candle it has to be oiled or 'dressed' before burning. The purpose of dressing the candle is to establish a psychic link between it and the magician through a primal sensory experience. By physically touching the candle during the dressing procedure, you are charging it with our own personal vibrations and also concentrating the desire of your magical act into the wax. The candle is becoming an extension of the magician's mental power and life energy.

When you dress a candle for magical use, imagine that it is a psychic magnet with a North and a South pole. Rub the oil into the candle beginning at the top or North end and work downwards to the half-way point. Always brush in the same direction downwards. This process is then repeated by beginning at the bottom or south end and working up to the middle.

The best type of oils to use for dressing candles are natural ones which can be obtained quite easily. Some occult suppliers will provide candle magic oils with exotic names. If the magician does not want to use these, he can select suitable oils or perfumes from his own sources. The oils soluble perfumes sold by craft shops for inclusion in candles can be recommended.

The candles you use can be colored in accordance with the following magical uses:

white - Spirituality and peace.
red - Health, energy, strength, courage, sexual potency.
pink - Love affection and romance.
yellow - Intellectualism, imagination, memory and creativity
green - Fertility, abundance, good luck and harmony
blue - Inspiration, occult wisdom, protection and devotion
purple - Material wealth, higher psychic ability, spiritual power and idealism
silver - Clairvoyance, inspiration, astral energy and intuition
orange - Ambition, career matters and the law.

If you wanted to use candle magic for healing, you would select a red candle to burn. To pass an exam, burn a yellow candle, to gain esoteric knowledge burn a blue candle or for material gain, burn a purple one. It is obvious these colors relate to the signs of the zodiac and the planetary forces.

The simplest form of candle magic is to write the objective of your ritual on a virgin piece of paper. You can use colored paper which matches the candle. Write your petition on the paper using a magical alphabet, such as theban, enochian, malachain, etc. As you write down what you want to accomplish through candle magic - a new job, healing for a friend, a change of residence, a new love affair, etc. - visualize your dream coming true. Visualize the circumstances under which you might be offered a new job, imagine your employer telling you that your salary has been increased or conjure up a vision of your perfect love partner.

When you have completed writing down your petitio, carefully fold up the paper in a deliberately slow fashion. Place the end of the folded paper in the candle flame and set light to it. As you do this concentrate once more on what you want from life.

When you have completed your ritual, allow the candle to have completely burned away. You do not need to stay with the candle after the ritual, but make sure that is safe and that red-hot wax will not cause damage or fire. Never re-use a candle which has been lit in any magical ritual. IT should only be used in that ritual and then allowed to burn away or be disposed of afterwards.

If you are conducting a magical ritual which involves two people (e.g. an absent healing for a person some distance away) then the second person can be symbolically represented during the ritual by another candle. /all you need to do is find out the subject's birth date and burn the appropriate candle for that zodiacal sign.
These are as follows

ARIES - red
TAURUS - green
GEMINI - yellow
CANCER - silver
LEO - orange
VIRGO - yellow
LIBRA - pink
AQUARIUS - all colors
PISCES - mauve
